Hi all, I am thinking of starting beginners tai chi after Christmas. It is supposed to help with balance and stress levels and wondered if anyone else has tried it and what they thought of it.
Thanks

Hi Bev,
It's great to hear from you again, how are you? I had a "taster " session of Tai Chi at an NRAS thing we went to and it was good. Apparently it is a very good exercise for RA, so good luck with it and let us know how you get on with it.
Love, Doreen xx

Give it a go- as long as it is low impact and you dont push "through" pain then it has to be good.how to be a velvet bulldoser

Hi Bev - have a word with Norman at Lever Chambers when you are next over. He's a Tai Chi instructor and will tell you all you need to know. Steve and I are joining his group after Christmas. I'll be e-mailing shortly! Loads of love xxxx

Hi Bev, it's a brilliant idea..go for it! One of the groups I go to are starting an hours session of Tai Chi before they start. It'll be £2.00 a session but money well spent. I'll keep in touch and let you know how it goes. Happy christmas. Kathleen

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think i will give it a go. Thanks Jean i will speak to Norman, next time i am at Lever Chambers. Doreen, thanks, i am not too bad, i have been having counselling since summer for anxiety and although it has been good for me it has been hard work and has 'mashed' my head a bit. Hopefully i am coming out of the other side now, hence starting to come on here again. Hope you and your family are well.

We are fine thanks Bev. How is your son now? I'm so glad you are starting to feel better with the anxiety, it's a horrid thing to suffer from and I hope the improvement continues for you. Go for it with the Tai Chi it could probably help a lot, it always looks so serene when you see people doing it.

Sorry this has taken me so long to reply, Patrick is not too bad at the moment Doreen but he can't get off steroids despite being on another couple of drugs ie Azothiaprine at a high dose. He goes to Manchester Met uni he should hav gone to Nottingham but didn't feel able to live in halls with new people. He is an ongoing worry to me, but i am slowly learning to accept his condition, all this illness is a big learning curve isn't it!
Sorry again for not replying sooner.

Hi Bev,
I can well understand your worries about Patrick ,we worry about them anyway whatever age they are, but with him having a chronic illness it must be a nightmare for you! Like you say, it's a learning curve and will probably get easier for you both in time. Is he able to get out and about and enjoy the student life?

Yes he is Doreen and there is a another worry we're all familiar with!
Is Hannah working now or continuing studying?

Yes I know, you will worry about him even more when he's enjoying the student life! Hannah is having a sort of year off, she's got a job at the Halifax bank and is saving hard. She has just been accepted on the "work Canada" travel scheme and will be going at the beginning of April for 6 months. At the moment she is applying for graduate schemes to do HR, hoping to get a place on one to start next September when she gets back from her travels! It's hard, there are so many applicants, so I hope she gets accepted for one out of the many she's applied for! What about your daughter, what is she doing now?

That's good news, good luck and well done to Hannah. Hope she gets accepted on the graduate scheme, it's very hard now for young people in these times.
Elizabeth is also at Manchester Met now, doing a history degree course, as well as working two days a week at HMRC, she does find it hard work fitting in studying and working, but doesn't want to give up the money. Mike has now retired so our house is a cross between retirement home and student accomodation with books and art stuff all over the place!
Nice to catch up Doreen.

I know just what you mean with the books all over the place! Ours is not quite as bad now that Hannah's finished uni.
Good luck to Elizabeth and Patrick, hope they are successful.

I have been going to Tai Chi once, sometimes twice a week for a couple of months. I find it very relaxing and always feel more alive when I have finished, its very gentle too.

Thanks Susan, welcome to the forum, i haven't managed to get to get to tai chi yet i've not been that well and also not much time. I could do with the relaxation aspect of it though.

Hope you can make it on Thursday Bev. So looking forward to seeing you. We usually meet at about noon in Whittakers Restaurant (third floor) and have a coffee and a sandwich first. Take care xxx
